Mr. Shamoun’s practice
involves Federal and State taxation, with an emphasis on
litigation, tax controversy, and estate planning. Mr.
Shamoun has extensive experience in defending
individuals and businesses before the Internal Revenue
Service (IRS), the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB),
the California Employment Development Department (EDD),
and the California State Board of Equalization (SBOE).
Mr. Shamoun, over the past few
years, has helped literally thousands of his clients
find solutions to their civil and criminal tax matters.
He has handled client issues ranging from filing past
due tax returns for individuals, to representing
corporations, LLCs, and sole proprietorships under
investigation for criminal tax violations. The size of
the individual amounts in controversy that Mr. Shamoun
has either settled or litigated with the IRS have ranged
from a few thousand dollars on the lower end, to over
$300 million dollars or more in other cases.
Mr. Shamoun is a true San
Diegan. He was born and raised in San Diego,
California, and completed all of his undergraduate,
graduate, and post-graduate studies at the University of
San Diego (USD). He earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in
Accountancy at USD, and worked as an accountant before
completing his two law degrees. He currently holds a
Juris Doctor (J.D.) and a Master of Laws in Taxation (LL.M.)
degree from USD. While attending USD, Mr. Shamoun was
one of the founding fathers of the USD Chapter of Lambda
Chi Alpha Fraternity.
Mr. Shamoun’s ties to the
local community extend to multiple business ventures
throughout San Diego County. He is the owner of two
Subway franchises in Ocean Beach, a convenience store
(OB Quik Stop Market), a drive-through coffee/juice
bar (Café Bella) as well as Newport Quik Stop, a one
stop shop for convenience store items, fresh coffee, ice
cream and sandwiches. He is also the Chief Financial
Officer of the Shamoun Investment Company. Mr. Shamoun,
through his sizable portfolio of real estate and
business investments, has developed a keen sensibility
to the legal needs of business owners and investors
alike. He is able to provide practical legal advice to
individuals seeking business and estate planning
services, or persons considering business or real estate
transactions and lease negotiations.
